DATES/DATES:
October 4-6, 2024

ENTRY DEADLINE:
September 5, 2024 (28 days) before the first day of competition @11:59pm PT.
Unpaid entries will not be included in the Draws.

TOURNAMENT FEES:
The entry fee of $200 per player must be made online. The fee will include a tournament souvenir.
There will be an additional $25 fee for Non-Canadian association participants.

EVENTS:
Events will be held in Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles for U13, U15 age categories.
Badminton Canada will be utilizing the Tournament Software online registration system.
Main draw and consolation will be held in all events time permitting.

REFUNDS:

  • Refunds are provided to players, less a 25% administration fee, who withdraw prior to the entry deadline of the competition.
  • Refunds are provided to players, less a 50% administration fee, who withdraw after the entry deadline, but before the Draws are published.
  • Refunds will not be provided for withdrawals after the Draws have been published.
  • Refunds are provided to players, less a 25% administration fee, who withdraw due to an injury prior to the start of competition who provide a physician’s letter or medical certificate.
  • Full refunds will be provided in the case that the player/pair do not make it into the main draw due to capacity.


PRIZES:
Medals for winners, finalists, and two third place finishers.


SEEDING & DRAWS:

  • Seeding and Draws wil be done according to the Badminton Canada General Competition Regulations.
  • Seeding will be posted by September 24, 2024.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:
Thursday - 19:30 - 21:30 - Practice available upon request at $30/hour per court. Coaches must book directly with the host club and cover their own rental expense. 
Friday – 09:00am Play commences (singles, doubles, mixed doubles)
Saturday?- 08:00am play continues, 12:00pm - QF, 5:00pm SF
Sunday – 09:00am Start of finals

TOUNAMENT RULES:
The 21-Rally Point scoring format will be utilized. Two-minute (2’) warm-up and ten-minute (10’) default will be strictly enforced. The use of protective eyewear is strongly recommended during play.

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION:
Badminton Canada will be following the 2025 BWF Calendar year for the entire 2024-2025 season. Competition is open to athletes born 2013 or later (U13), 2011 or later(U15). All participants in Junior Elite Series tournaments must be registered members of Badminton Canada or a Member Association of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and provide their member ID upon online registration.
The registration fee to become a member of Badminton Canada will be an annual fee (September 1 - August 31) and you must be a registered member in good standing with a Badminton Canada provincial member organization in order to be a registered member of Badminton Canada.
*Non-Canadian association participants will be charged an extra $25 fee for entering a tournament and must hold an International Player License for Domestic Events.
Should the maximum entry be exceeded; priority will be given to players based on (1) P/T representation at the event and (2) Merit base entry based on seeding . See specific technical requirements in the General Competition Regulations for detailed entry guidelines per event.

COACH CERTIFICATION:
All coaches must comply with the Badminton Canada Coaching Certification Policy. Coaches must purchase a National Coaches License for the 2024/2025 season before arriving at the venue. Coaches who have not met all requirements will not be allowed to coach on court. It is the coach’s responsibility to understand and have completed all requirements before arriving at the competition.

PRIVACY
The Participant (and the Participant’s parent/guardian if applicable) authorize the Club, the Member, and Badminton Canada (collectively the “Organization”) to collect and use personal information about the Participant for the purpose of receiving communications and the purposes described in each Organization’s policies relating to privacy.

PHOTO
The Participant (and the Participant’s parent/guardian, if applicable) grants permission to the Organization to photograph and/or record the Participant’s image and/or voice on still or motion picture film and/or audio tape, and to use this material to promote the sport, the Organization, and/or the Organization’s Activities through social media, newsletters, websites, television, film, radio, print and/or displays. The Participant (or the Participant’s parent/guardian, if applicable) understands that they waive any claim to remuneration for use of audio/visual materials used for these purposes. Permission may be withdrawn at any time by contacting either Organization’s Privacy Officer. The Privacy Officer will advise the implications of such withdrawal.

ASSUMPTION OF RISK
1. The Participant is voluntarily participating in the sport of badminton and the spectating, orientation, instruction, activities, competitions, programs, and services (collectively the “Activities”) of Badminton Canada, Badminton New / Nouveau-Brunswick and The Moncton Badminton Club. These organizations and their respective Directors, Officers, committee members, members, employees, coaches, volunteers, officials, participants, agents, sponsors, owners/operators of the facilities in which the Activities take place, and representatives (collectively the “Organization”) are not responsible for any injury, personal injury, damage, property damage, expense, loss of income or loss of any kind suffered by a Participant during or as a result of the Activities and/or, when the Participant is the age of majority or older, when caused by the negligence of the Organization.

RISKS
2. The Activities have foreseeable and unforeseeable inherent risks, hazards and dangers that no amount of care, caution or expertise can eliminate, including without limitation, the potential for serious bodily injury, permanent disability, paralysis, and loss of life. These risks include:

a) Executing strenuous and demanding physical techniques;
b) Vigorous physical exertion, strenuous cardiovascular workouts and rapid movements;
c) Exerting and stretching various muscle groups;
d) The failure to properly use any piece of equipment or from the mechanical failure of any piece of equipment;
e) Spinal cord injuries which may render the Participant permanently paralyzed;
f) Serious injury to virtually all bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons and other aspects of the Participant’s body or to the Participant’s general health and well-being;
g) Abrasions, sprains, strains, fractures, or dislocations;
h) Concussion or other head injuries, including but not limited to, closed head injury or blunt head trauma;
i) Physical contact with other participants, spectators, equipment, and hazards;
j) Contact with a racquet, shuttlecock, net, or the court;
k) Not wearing appropriate safety or protective equipment;
l) Failure to act safely or within the Participant’s own ability or within designated areas;
m) Travel to and from competitive events and associated non-competitive events which are an integral part of the Activities.

3. The Organization may offer or promote online programming (such as webinars, remote conferences, workshops, and online training) which have different foreseeable and unforeseeable risks than in-person programming. These risks include privacy breaches, hacking, technology malfunction or damage.

4. Participating in the Activities could increase the Participant’s risk of contracting communicable diseases.

5. The Organization may be negligent, which may include failure by the Organization to take reasonable steps to safeguard or protect the Participant from the risks, dangers and hazards associated with participation in the Activities.

TERM
6. In consideration of the Organization allowing the Participant to participate in the Activities, the
Participant agrees:
a) That the Participant is not relying on any oral or written statements made by the Organization or their agents, whether in a brochure or advertisement or in individual
conversations, to agree to participate in the Activities;
b) That when the Participant practices or trains in their own space, the Participant (or the Participant’s parent/guardian, if applicable) is responsible for the Participant’s surroundings and the location and equipment that is selected for the Participant;
c) That the Participant’s mental and physical condition is appropriate to participate in the Activities and the Participant (or the Participant’s parent/guardian, if applicable) assumes all risks related to the Participant’s mental and physical condition;
d) To comply with the rules and regulations for participation in the Activities;
e) To comply with the rules of the facility or equipment;
f) That if the Participant observes an unusual significant hazard or risk, the Participant will remove themselves from participation and immediately bring their observations to a representative of the Organization;
g) The risks associated with the Activities are increased when the Participant is impaired and the Participant will not participate if impaired in any way;
h) That it is the Participant’s (or the Participant’s parent/guardian, if applicable) sole responsibility to assess whether any Activities are too difficult for the Participant. By the Participant commencing an Activity, the Participant (or the Participant’s parent/guardian, if applicable) acknowledges and accepts the suitability and conditions of the Activity;
i) That the Participant may be exposed to, or infected by, a communicable disease and such exposure may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability, or death; and
j) That the Participant (or the Participant’s parent/guardian, if applicable) is responsible for choosing the Participant’s safety or protective equipment and the secure fitting of that equipment.

DISCLAIMER
7. When the Participant is the age of majority or older, the Participant assumes all risks arising out of, associated with or related to, participation in the Activities and waives any and all claims that the Participant may have now or in the future against the Organization. The Participant, when the age of majority or older, accepts and fully assumes all such risks and possibility of personal injury, death, property damage, expense and related loss, including loss of income, resulting from participation in the Activities.

8. When the Participant is the age of majority or older, the Participant forever releases and indemnifies the Organization from any and all liability for any and all claims, demands, actions, damages (including direct, indirect, special and/or consequential), losses, actions, judgments, and costs (including legal fees) (collectively, the “Claims”) which the Participant has or may have in the future, that might arise out of, result from, or relate to, participation in the Activities, even though such Claims may have been caused by any manner whatsoever, including but not limited to, the Organization’s negligence, gross negligence, negligent rescue, omissions, carelessness, breach of contract and/or breach of any statutory duty of care of the Organization.

9. The Organization is not responsible or liable for any damage to the Participant’s vehicle, property, or equipment that may occur as a result of the Activities. This Agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by law of the Province of Ontario and if any portion thereof is held invalid, the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect. The Participant (or the Participant’s parent/guardian, if applicable) agrees to file any lawsuit against the Organization in the Province of Ontario and further agrees that the substantive law of the Province of Ontario will apply with regard to conflict of law rules.


STATUS OF ACTIVITIES
The Participant is voluntarily participating in the sport of badminton and the spectating, orientation, instruction, activities, competitions, programs, and services (collectively the “Activities”) of the Club, the Member, and/or Badminton Canada (“collectively the Organization”).

The Participant (and the Participant’s parent/guardian, if applicable) agrees that the Organization has the discretion to cancel any scheduled Activities. The Organization has no responsibilities to the Participant (including refunding registration fees or paying for any costs associated with travel) if an Activity is canceled or postponed by the Organization or for any other reason including a public health or safety issue.

The Participant (and the Participant’s parent/guardian, if applicable) agrees that the Organization has the discretion to modify the structure of any Activities due to a public health or safety issue, which may include removing specific disciplines or age groups from a competition, changing a competition format, or changing the manner in which individuals become eligible to participate.

The Participant (and the Participant’s parent/guardian, if applicable) agrees that the Organization may implement and enforce guidelines for participation that may include ‘Return to Play’ protocols or the wearing of personal protective equipment by Participants (and their parents/guardians, if applicable). The Organization has the discretion to remove any Participant (and their parents/guardians, if applicable) who does not comply with the Return to Play protocols or wear personal protective equipment. When required, the Participant is responsible for providing his or her own personal protective equipment.
