2026 Alberta Winter Games

The 2026 Alberta Winter Games will take place in Lakeland County in the town of Bonnyville, city of Cold Lake, and village of Glendon, AB, from February 13-16 2026.

Zone team selections will take place in each of the eight zones and participants will compete for their zone at the Alberta Games.
Format of Trials: will consist of singles play only. There will be no formal doubles or mixed doubles qualifying. Pool qualifying will lead to single elimination playoffs, the top 4 boys and girls will be nominated to represent thier zone.
Zone trials will be limited to one day in each zone. Registration fee for the trials is $20 and participants must be a Badminton Alberta member at the time of registration.

Eligiblity:
- Athletes will be ineligible if they have represented Canada in the team event at either World Junior or Pan-Am Junior competitions.
- Athletes may compete in the Zone of their residence or the Zone where they are a club member and actively train at, however, they must declare Zone of choice prior to playoffs.
- Athletes born between February 17, 2009 – February 12, 2015, are eligible to compete in badminton at the 2026 Alberta Winter Games. Athletes must be between the ages of 11 – 16 during the dates of the Games (Feb 13-16, 2026).
- Athletes that are 17 years of age or are turning 17 during the dates of the Games ARE NOT eligible to participate.

About The Event:
It is a goal of the Alberta Sport to promote and facilitate a multi-sport event for Alberta's youth for the enhancement of sport development.
The purposes of the Alberta Winter Games is to provide a competitive opportunity for developing athletes, generally 11-16 years of age.
The Alberta Winter Games also serve the following general purposes:
- to motivate Albertans to achieve a higher level of physical fitness through more active participation in sport;
- to assist athletes with the interest and ability to work toward their maximum potential;
- to provide competition that will serve the developmental needs for each sport throughout Alberta;
- to showcase the talents of Albertans in a wide range of sport and activities;
- to develop the cultural and social components as an enhancement to Games in Alberta;
- to provide each hosting community with a legacy of experienced volunteers and upgraded facilities; and
- to assist in the preparation of potential athletes for the Canada Games, where possible.
The Alberta Games are a provincial competition held every second year (even). In order to ensure that the Games include participants from every part of Alberta, the province has been divided into eight zones.
To be considered for involvement in the Alberta Games, each Provincial Sport Association must ensure there will be active participation in at least five of the eight zones.

2026 Alberta Winter Games Results
Over 2,400 athletes, coaches, and technical officials, supported by over 1000 volunteers gathered in the Lakeland Region of Alberta in the towns of Bonnyville and Cold Lake to participate in the 2026 Alberta Winter Games, from February 13th to 16th. The Games brought together athletes from each of Alberta's eight sport zones to compete across several sport disciplines and represent their communities. At the end of the Games, the Alberta Cup was awarded to Zone 6 (Edmonton) for overall performance, the Minister's Cup was awarded to Zone 4 (Parkland) for showing the greatest improvement, and the Spirit of Sport Award was presented to Zone 2 (Big Country) for demonstrating the spirit of fair play, sportsmanship and team spirit both on and off the court.
The badminton events took place at Col J.J. Parr Sports Centre in Cold Lake and featured a team event and an individual event. 64 athletes took part in the events with the support of 16 coaches, 13 technical officials and several local volunteers and parents who contributed to making the event successful. Badminton Alberta congratulates all participants on their achievements and thanks the Lakeland Region host committee, Sport Alberta mission staff, volunteers, officials, and supporters for delivering a successful 2026 Alberta Winter Games badminton competition.
