Coaching Pathway
|
The coaching pathway for beginner coaches with no previous badminton experience begins with the Shuttle Time Program. It is focused on the fundamental technical skills and knowledge in the sport and is designed for teachers, school staff or volunteers.
Shuttle Time also offers a large resource of lesson plans, video demonstrations and more.
The program has a hybrid delivery, with a portion completed individually online and the remainder done in person as part of a group delivery.

The NCCP Competition - Introduction pathway has two levels of certification, Regional and Provincial. This pathway is designed for coaches who work with youth or adult players who are entering competitive badminton for the first time. A Regional Certification is required to coach on the field of play at sanctioned Badminton Alberta tournaments.
The Regional certification consists of 3 Multi-Sport modules and 1 Sport Specific Module:
- Teaching and Learning
- Planning a Practice
- Making Ethical Decisions
- Module 3: Technical & Tactical Basics
When these modules are completed, coaches can register for evaluation and submit their evaluation portfolio and video. Once passing evaluation, the coach will be awarded a Competition-Introduction Regional Certification.
A coach with a Regional Certification can begin thier Provincial training by taking the following modules:
- Design a Sport Program
- Basic Mental Skills
- Module 5: Technical & Tactical Foundations
A similar process follows for the evaluation and awarding of the Comp - Int Provincial Certification.
