New changes for Alberta Junior rankings

Badminton Alberta is excited to share several changes that affect the Alberta Junior Rankings and the YONEX Alberta Junior Circuit.

Alberta Junior Rankings

Together with Visual Reality we have been able to automatically generate a new starting point for any athlete moving age categories on 01 January 2025. The percentage of points carried forward from an athlete’s previous age category is based on several factors. These factors include:

  • the number of participants per gender in the age group,
  • the number of points collected by an individual in that age group,
  • the ranking points of the age group the players are moving into.

The % was calculated to provide a reasonable placement for each player that moves up into an older age group, based on their performance.

    1. What happens at the beginning of a new calendar year?
      1. Athletes that remain in an age category will use their existing points from the previous season for the first and subsequent ranking reports generated in the new year.
      2. For athletes moving up into an older age category, they will carry forward a percentage of their previous season points for use in generating the first and subsequent ranking reports in the new season.

Athletes moving age categories effective 01 January 2025, the following percentage of their previous ranking points will be used to establish a new starting point in the new age category.

  • U13 boys’ singles and doubles: 60% of previous age category total
  • U13 girls’ singles, doubles and mixed doubles: 50% of previous age category total
  • U15 boys’ singles and doubles: 50% of previous age category total
  • U15 girls’ singles, doubles and mixed doubles: 60% of previous age category total
  • U17 – all disciplines: 50% of previous age category total
  • U19 – all disciplines: 60% of previous age category total
