- For all GOLD events, a player must have the minimum of 2,500 ranking POINTS (not Total Points) in singles and/or 3,500 ranking POINTS in doubles or mixed doubles to be eligible.
- For all SILVER events, a player with 3,000 ranking POINTS (not Total Points) or more in singles and/or 4,000 ranking POINTS in doubles or mixed doubles will be ineligible to compete in any age category in SILVER events.
YONEX AJC GOLD CIRCUIT
Badminton Alberta’s Junior GOLD tournament circuit is designed for Alberta players who are training at least several times a week to compete at a high-performance level. The AJC circuit features 5 age groups: U11, U13, U15, U17, and U19. By competing in the AJC circuit, you acquire ranking points, which are shown on the Alberta Junior and National Junior Ranking system. This allows an athlete to gauge their development and success against other players of similar skill in the province and across the country.
1. Player Age Eligibility
1.1 Player age eligibility for the duration of the 2025 season is as follows (includes start and end date):
o U11: Born between January 1st, 2015 and December 31st, 2016
o U13: Born between January 1st, 2013 and December 31st, 2014
o U15: Born between January 1st, 2011 and December 31st, 2012
o U17: Born between January 1st, 2009 and December 31st, 2010
o U19: Born between January 1st, 2007 and December 31st, 2008
The minimum age requirement for any age group is 8 years old (born in 2016). Players under the age of 8 years old are not eligible to participate in sanctioned Badminton Alberta junior events.
For every age group, the year stated is the year of birth. For example, if you turn 18 on or after January 1st, 2025, you are eligible to play in the U19 division. If you turn 19 in 2025, you can not play U19 in the 2024-2025 season. You can play up age groups but not down age groups.
1.2 Players can compete in one age category older than theirs providing they meet the minimum ranking point requirements. Anything further will require approval by the Competitions Committee.
2. Membership & Player License Requirement
Players must have a valid 2025-26 Badminton Alberta membership and an Alberta Provincial Player License or higher at the time of tournament registration to participate in the Junior GOLD tournament circuit event.
Memberships can be renewed or purchased on Playerweb. More information on memberships can be found here.
3. Athlete Participation Restrictions
New for Fall 2025 - All participants must have a minimum of 2,500 ranking points in singles or 3.500 in doubles or mixed doubles in their actual age group or higher at the time registrations open to be eligible.
There are no maximum Alberta ranking points restrictions for participating in a Junior GOLD circuit tournament.
4. GOLD Junior Provincial Championships
Badminton Alberta will hold separate junior provincial championships in the GOLD and SILVER categories. Each level of championship will feature singles, doubles and mixed doubles within the five age categories (U11, U13, U15, U17, and U19).
To be eligible for GOLD junior provincial championships all athletes must have played in a minimum of two GOLD level tournaments within the current 2026 season (January 1 – April 1, 2026).
YONEX AJC SILVER CIRCUIT
Badminton Alberta’s Junior SILVER tournament circuit events are designed for players who are training a few times a week to compete at a competitive level. This level of play is usually higher than the competition you find in your schools or local club and allows you to develop your skills and work towards competing in the Alberta AJC SILVER tournament circuit. Tournaments feature up to 5 age groups: U11, U13, U15, U17, and U19.
By competing in this Circuit, you acquire ranking points at a lower value than a GOLD event, which are shown on the Alberta Junior Ranking System only and will not be part of the National Junior Ranking system. This allows an athlete to gauge their development and success against other players of similar skill in the province.
