REGULATIONS
DATE: April 12-14, 2019
VENUE: B-Active Badminton Club, 14830 - 112 Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5M 2T9
ELIGIBILITY: Players must have competed in at least one Alberta Junior Circuit tournament since October 1st, 2018 to be eligible for Alberta Junior Closed Championships.
CONDITIONS: The tournament is open to athletes who are 2018-19 NATIONAL (COMPETITIVE) members in good standing of Badminton Alberta. The tournament will be conducted under the official rules of Badminton Alberta and the World Badminton Federation.
AGE CATEGORIES: u19 (born in 2001 or later); u17 (born in 2003 or later); u15 (born in 2005 or later); u13 (born in 2007 or later); and u11 (born in 2009 or later).
ENTRY FEE: The entry fee of $80.00 (includes $2.50 Young Officials Program fee) is payable on-line at the time of entry using a credit card or PayPal account. You must know your Badminton Alberta number to enter. Please use all seven digits (2 letters followed by 5 numbers). On-Line entry only: You must enter on-line by visiting www.badmintonalberta.ca Be sure to let your club coach know that you have entered and who your partners are. You should know and enter your partners Badminton Alberta number at the time of registration.
ENTRY DEADLINE: The entry deadline is April 3, at 17:59 MST.EVENTS: Singles, Doubles & Mixed Doubles. Players may enter a maximum of three events, one singles, one doubles and one mixed doubles event. Play begins Friday at Noon with singles in all age categories, followed with mixed doubles, Saturday at 9:00 am with doubles and continuation of singles and mixed doubles. All main draw and consolation finals will be scheduled for Sunday. Draws will be post on Badminton Alberta On-Line at www.badmintonalberta.ca
FORMAT: Main draw with consolation events for all those defeated in their first round match, time permitting.
CIRCUIT RANKINGS –Yonex Alberta Junior Championships level ranking point standings will be calculated and post following the tournament. Ranking points for Alberta Junior Championships will be awarded at the 4* value as outlined on Badminton Alberta’s website http://www.badmintonalberta.ca/page/12670/Ranking-and-Seeding-Explanation. These rankings will be maintained separately for singles, doubles and mixed doubles. The final YONEX Alberta Junior Circuit rankings will be based on an athlete’s best four results from the Yonex Alberta Junior Circuit tournaments, including the YONEX Alberta Junior Closed Championships.
PRIZES: Awarded to event winners, finalists & consolation event winners.
YOUNG OFFICALS PROGRAM-Badminton Alberta will be continuing with the implementation of phase one of the Young Officials Program, which requires the winner of a match to stay on-court to score keep the upcoming match on the same court. Scheduling of the tournament will be adjusted to provide additional rest time between matches to accommodate the additional commitment of the players. In the case of doubles, the decision to whom will stay behind to score keep will be decided by Rock-Paper-Scissors between the winning pair. Any player unwilling to cooperate with Tournament Management will be removed from the tournament.
RULES: The 60 second break between the first and second game will be allowed throughout the tournament, but prior to the semi-final round, coaching during this break will not be permitted. Athletes must remain on court during the break. Coaching may only be provided during the break between the second and third games. Ten-minute default and two minute warm-up rules will be in effect.
SEEDINGS: Draws prepared according to the latest Badminton Alberta Junior rankings.
SHUTTLES: Yonex Areosena 40 feather shuttles will be supplied for all age categories.
SCHEDULE – Tournament will begin Friday’s at Noon with u11, u13 & u15 singles. While u17 & u19 singles will begin at 2:00pm. At least one round of mixed doubles may occur Friday evening. Doubles events to begin Saturday at 9:00am, with every effort to finish play by 8:00pm Saturday evening. Start times are subject to change depending on the size of entry. Schedule is subject to change, based on size of entry and availability of courts. All finals will be held Sunday morning beginning at 9:00am.
CLOTHING: Colored clothing is permitted. Badminton attire is mandatory. The use of protective eyewear is strongly recommended during play.
COACHING ELIGIBILITY – Effective January 01, 2016, Badminton Alberta will require that all coaches entering the field of play be minimal Comp Intro Regional certified.
TOURNAMENT RULES – The following are the new intervals for the Rally Point System, and when coaching will be permitted.
a. The 60-second interval is allowed during each game once one side reaches 11 points, but no coaching will be allowed.
b. Prior to the semi-finals, the 120-second interval between the 1st and 2nd games will be permitted without coaching support. During the semi-finals and finals, coaching during the 120-second interval will be allowed.
c. The 120-second interval between the 2nd and 3rd games will be allowed in all rounds and will permit coaching support.
NOTE: Badminton Alberta has decided that no player will be allowed to leave the court during any of these intervals. Sufficient water and extra racquets should be with the player on court at the start of the match.

WITHDRAWALS AND REFUNDS: Withdrawal before the registration deadline will receive a full refund2. Withdrawal after the deadline and before the draws are made will receive a refund less a $15+gst service charge3. Withdrawal after the draws have been published – not eligible for a refund.4. All refunds will be performed after the event has finished.
