Alberta juniors return to competition

Based on the results of a Return to Competition survey distributed to member clubs, Badminton Alberta has created a modified return to competition plan for junior aged competitors due to COVID-19.

The Edison Badminton Centre located near Okotoks will be the site of the first two junior tournaments of the 2020-21 season. The two silver level events will use singles only format with expanded group play and playdowns for every player within the pool, regardless of win-loss record.

Until such a time that all clubs are able to report training within co-hort groups, Badminton Alberta will be unable to introduce doubles and mixed doubles.

The two junior events will be held two weeks apart, allowing athletes the opportunity to compete at both events.

Badminton Alberta is working closely with the management of Edison School to ensure appropriate safety measures are in place to protect the well-being of all competitors. The Edison School contains three separate buildings, with gymnasium facilities in two separate buildings. Each age group and its competitors will be restricted to one of the two buildings, with no one allowed to go between the venues, other than the head referee.

Unfortunately the venues will have restricted access to players only at this time, with no access for either coaches or parents. Each age category will be restricted to 40 players max, with no more than 50 players and organizers allowed in the venue at the same time.
