The Badminton Academy - Lead Coach for Youth Programs

Badminton Alberta is looking for experienced, NCCP Certified coaches to lead youth instructional badminton programs as part of "The Badminton Academy" program.

 

Position Title: Lead Coach

Program Information: 

Part Time hours, Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday evenings 6PM-9PM or Friday 4:30PM-8:30PM. Program is run seasonally with 8-13 sessions per season. Program is instructional focused, and aims to provide participants the fundamental skills and knowledge of the sport, while providing a fun and positive first experience to encourage lifelong participation in the sport.

Locations:

- Monday 6-9PM: Cedarbrae School, West Dalhousie School 

- Wednesday 6-9PM: Hawkwood School 

- Friday 4:30-8:30PM: Southland Leisure Centre

Position Summary:

Lead coaches work with an assiting coach to provide structured lessons according to a seasonal plan to meet the programs goals. Lead coaches should be outgoing and positive while providing instruction and feedback. Coaches should also be highly aware of safety risks and concerns while leading activities and must document any incidents/accidents that occur with the forms provided.

Key Responsibilities:

The Lead Coach is responsible for and expected to:

  • Maintaining a safe and positive training environment.
  • Punctual arrival at the venue for set up and tear down if necessary.
  • Conducting coaching sessions throughout the seasonal year.
  • Providing instruction, feedback and guidance to athletes and parents.
  • Adhere to the coaching schedules and program commitments.
  • Always maintain professional conduct.
  • Consistent recording of attendance and reporting of prolonged athlete absences or accidents/incidents
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with athletes, parents, and the Employer.
  • Follow all policies, ethics and procedures of Badminton Alberta.
  • Report any absence in advance for approval by the Employer.
  • Find a substitute coach that is approved by the Employer in the case of an absence.
  • Avoid conflicts of interest or promotion regarding other Badminton Clubs or Programs in the Province.

Qualifications:

  • Must have previous coaching experience
  • Must have NCCP Regional Coach certification
  • Must complete NCCP "Safe Sport Training" and "Understanding the Rule of Two" E-Learning Courses
  • Must provide a Police E-PIC check or Sterling Backcheck 
  • Outgoing and friendly personality to work with and motivate youth athletes
  • Punctuality and ability to communicate effectively
