Clarification on Step 1 Easing of Restrictions

Badminton Alberta received confirmation from the Sport, Physical Activity, and Recreation (SPAR) Branch of Government that the following activities are permitted under Step 1:

Junior Programming (U19/ U17/ U15/ U13/U11)

  • private one-on-one lessons
  • semi-private lessons
  • group training (Maximum of 10 total individuals, including all coaches, trainers, and participants)

Adult Programming

  • private one-on-one lessons

Family Programming

  • one-on-one household training (semi-private lessons)

Still in effect:

  • No sports games, competitions, team practice, league play or group exercise of any kind is allowed.
  • Trainers must be professional, certified and/or paid trainers who are providing active instruction and correction.
    • Passive supervision of a physical activity is not considered training.
  • Sessions are required to be scheduled by appointment only. No drop-ins.
  • No groups allowed for adults.
  • Individual workouts without a trainer are not permitted.

Badminton Alberta encourages everyone returning to badminton to do so safely following the rules outlined by the Government and your local club/facility.  As always, we will continue to provide updates and clarity as it becomes available.
