Badminton Alberta is committed to ensuring that everyone in our sport, including athletes, coaches, parents, officials, volunteers, club leaders, and others, can participate in environments that are safe, respectful, and free from maltreatment. Today, we’re sharing an important update on how we’re strengthening that commitment.
Introducing the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism
Badminton Alberta has joined the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism (ABSSCM), a new multi-sport provincial initiative developed by the Alberta Sport Leadership Association with funding from the Government of Alberta. This mechanism is designed to provide all members of our community with access to a safe, confidential, and independent process for reporting concerns about maltreatment in sport.
Through this initiative, anyone who witnesses or experiences maltreatment within Badminton Alberta’s programs, events, or activities can now report their concerns through ALIAS, an independent third-party reporting service. ALIAS staff are experienced in handling complaints of maltreatment, are professionally independent of Badminton Alberta, and understand our Safe Sport policies. Every report is received and managed by ALIAS and Badminton Alberta is only engaged as required by policy.
What This Means for You
If you have a concern about maltreatment, whether it involves harassment, abuse, discrimination, or any behaviour that violates our codes of conduct, you now have access to a confidential reporting platform operated entirely outside of our organization. ALIAS will contact you within 48 working hours of receiving your report and aims to reach a receivability conclusion within approximately 10 business days.

Our Shared Responsibility
Sport safety is everyone’s responsibility. Whether you’re a player, parent, coach, official, or volunteer, you play a role in creating an environment where people feel welcome and protected. If a concern about maltreatment comes to the attention of any Badminton Alberta staff member, it will be directed to ALIAS through the reporting process.
We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the resources on our Sport Safety page, including the Alberta Universal Code of Conduct and the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism Reporting & Independent Resolution Policy. Understanding what constitutes maltreatment and knowing how to report it are important steps we can all take.
This initiative reflects Badminton Alberta’s ongoing commitment to the safety and well-being of everyone in our sport. We’re proud to be part of this provincial effort, and we’re grateful for your continued support in making badminton in Alberta a positive experience for all.
