The 2026-27 YONEX ALBERTA JUNIOR CIRCUIT will consist of 25 events (two platinum, ten gold, eleven silver and two bronze). The addition of two platinum events, at least one junior team event and an additional bronze tournament will round out the schedule.
Badminton Alberta will be implementing the following changes effect 01 September 2026.
- Activating the BWF's new 3 x 15 point scoring format for all YONEX AJC events;
- Where possible all AJC events will utilize pool play qualification leading into elimination style playoffs. An attempt to have all athletes qualify for either Championship or Consolation knock-out draws is being considered;
- New and improved schedule will have all doubles matches played on Friday, all singles matches on Saturday and mixed doubles matches on Sunday;
- Individual event entry fee for singles, doubles and mixed doubles (you pay for the event(s) you enter and compete in;
- On no less than six weekends - an attempt to offer a Gold and Silver event in the same city, thereby reducing the number of weekends a family must plan for if they have children competing at both the gold and silver levels.
- The addition of two platinum junior events will involve the top eight athletes/pairs in each age category in each event. Additional details to be circulated in due time.
To help facilitate the changes, Badminton Alberta is looking for at least four volunteers per club to come forward and receive training as a techncial official (umpire and referee). Badminton Alberta will also be training additional club volunteers interested in training as Draw Desk/Match Control. Please watch the website for details regarding the training seminars. The seminars will be free for all individuals with children active in AJC events.
