Badminton Alberta Membership & License Information

BASE MEMBERSHIP

Effective September 01 of each year, your affiliation with Badminton Alberta must be renewed.

Badminton Alberta offers one type of membership available for purchase by individuals:

  • One basic membership category is available to assist in servicing the badminton community and to assist in promoting badminton as an OLYMPIC SPORT;
  • Membership is maintained through the association office;
  • Badminton Alberta ID number is issued to new members at the time of registration, existing members simply need to sign-in and renew for the current season;
  • Registered membership provides individuals with the opportunity to contribute monetarily to the growth and promotion of the sport of badminton;
  • Membership Year: September 1 - August 31
  • Additional purchase of a LICENSE will be required for players, coaches and officials involved in any sanctioned Badminton Alberta event. Licenses will be differentiated as either national, provincial or local, depending on the level of obtained sanction. National events will require the purchase of a BCAN license, while provincial and local calibre events will require the purchase of a BALTA license before REGISTRATION process can be completed.

Benefits of Badminton Alberta membership include but may not be limited to the following:

  • membership card;
  • discount rates at official Badminton Alberta hotels in Calgary and Edmonton;
  • $2,000,000 in liability insurance coverage at all BA sanctioned events;
  • organizational support for the growth and development of the sport within the province;
  • voting privilege for selection of Board of Directors and Annual General Meeting for those members 18 years of age or older;

Cost: $10

   

The following grades of LICENSES are available to compliment the basic membership requirement for any player, coach or official to gain access as a participant in any Badminton Alberta sanctioned event.  

NATIONAL PLAYER LICENSE

Cost: Youth 14 yrs & under - $55

         Adult 15 yrs & older - $60 (Includes GST)

NATIONAL PLAYER LICENSE affiliation with Badminton Alberta is designed for the active tournament player at the NATIONAL level or higher as well as those individuals interested in financially supporting the association.

Benefits include:

  • entry information for BA sanctioned events;
  • eligible to participate in national circuit events, provincial championships, Alberta Team activities, Alberta Games, interprovincial and national championships;
  • eligibility to take part in player/coach/official development opportunities sponsored by Badminton Alberta;
  • monitoring certification levels of coaches and officials;
  • includes $25 Player License with Badminton Canada.

 

PROVINCIAL PLAYER LICENSE

Cost: Youth 14 yrs & under - $20

         Adult 15 yrs & older - $25 (Includes GST)

PROVINCIAL PLAYER LICENSE affiliation with Badminton Alberta is designed for the active tournament player at the PROVINCIAL level as well as those individuals interested in financially supporting the association.

Benefits include:

  • eligible to participate in provincial circuit events, (excluding provincial championships and Alberta Games, interprovincial and national championships);
  • eligibility to take part in coach/official development opportunities sponsored by Badminton Alberta;
  • monitoring certification levels of coaches and officials;
  • affiliation with local club, zone association and provincial association:
  • $10 Player License with Badminton Canada

 

PROVINCIAL COACH/OFFICIAL LICENSE

Cost: $25 (Includes GST)

COACH/OFFICIAL LICENSE affiliation with Badminton Alberta is designed for the active coach or official, at the PROVINCIAL level as well as those individuals interested in financially supporting the association.

Membership benefits include:

  • eligible to participate in provincial championships, Alberta Summer Games, interprovincial and national championships;
  • eligibility to take part in coach/official development opportunities sponsored by Badminton Alberta;
  • monitoring certification levels of coaches and officials;

 

SINGLE EVENT LICENSE

Cost: $11 (Includes GST)

Continued for the 2019-20 season, individuals can experience the thrill of competitng in one tournament or coaching course. If the individual wishes to compete in additional events, then they simply pay the upgrade fee to become a PROVINCIAL LICENSEE, with no change to their ID number or personal profile. 

  • participation in one sanctioned event;

 

CLUB MEMBERSHIP

Badminton Alberta is please to offer three different membership categories for clubs:

 

BASIC CLUB

Cost: $87.50 (Includes GST)

Basic Club affiliation is designed to service recreational clubs and schools. Club affiliation is valid for the badminton season of September 1st – August 31st.  

Membership benefits include:

  • Badminton News e-mailed to the club contact;
  • Badminton Alberta handbook promoting association programs, international laws and regulations of badminton;
  • $2,000,000 in liability insurance coverage for club executive and volunteers;
  • certificate of insurance issued upon request;
  • tournament dates on Badminton Alberta calendar of events;
  • eligible to host Sport Outreach training clinic/camp

 

COLLEGE CLUB

Cost: $340.00 (Includes GST)

College affiliation with Badminton Alberta is designed to service colleges and universities participating in an organized league or conference. College affiliation is valid for the badminton season of September 1 – August 31.

Membership benefits include:

  • individual affilitation for the current team roster, including players, coaches and administrators;
  • Badminton Alberta handbook supplied for each team member;
  • includes the benefits of Basic Club affiliation.

 

 MAJOR CLUB

Cost: $570.00 (Includes GST)

Major club affiliation is designed to service competitive clubs and or private sport clubs. Major club affiliation is valid for the badminton season of September 1 – August 31. 

Membership benefits in addition to those of the Basic Club affiliation include:

  • provides the club with the opportunity to be selected as host for Alberta Series events or provincial championships, provided they apply.
  • provides opportunity for club representative to attend annual Coaches & Competition committee planning/review meeting.
